SEXY BEAST!
A set of flashcards and accompanying magnet set designed to support learning disabled adults learn about sex and consent.
Learning disabled adults face the highest rates of sexual misconduct - a key factor in this is due to the infantilisation of this group, who as a result are denied sexual education (and by extension, sexual agency.)
The set has therefore been designed with both learning disabled adults and their inner circles in mind- the cards and magnet set could be used by an individual, with a partner, or with another trusted adult.
Certain cards with heavier topics (such as, 'what is rape?' or 'what is sexual assault?') prompt card users to seek out a safe and private space, and discuss with a trusted adult.
How we teach and discuss sex and consent should reflect the values we wish to bring to sex- the set should be used in private, safe spaces. The cards and magnets can be worked through in any order, and users should be able to choose how they engage with the set.
Many of my design and copy decisions were made after looking at a range of sexual education sources (for instance, many were written for children or teenagers) as well as a range of sources around designing and sex education for those with learning disabilities. Some of my sources included Mencap, Brooke, and Healthy Respect (NHS).
