Welcome 2 Chutney Chick!

Welcome 2 Chutney Chick!

Mahnoor Anwar

Assalamualaikum, Sat Sri Akal, and Namaste!

Welcome to Chutney Chick, an online platform which aims to create pride and belonging for 2nd + 3rd Generation South Asians.

Have you ever struggled to feel as if you ‘fit in’ or ‘belong’ anywhere? Maybe you’ve avoided bringing desi foods into school or work, to avoid judgement or bullying - or you’ve sat at family functions struggling to follow what’s going on because you don’t understand the languages your families speak.

Maybe you’ve prayed salat in secret, in store changing rooms, during days out with non-muslim friends (you didn’t want to kill the vibe by being true to yourself or whatever) or wondered to yourself, why brown people like Rishi Sunak and Shabana Mahmood are platformed and given representation, despite being evil little rat people?

Have you ever tried to reach out to people you thought would understand?

Whether that was religious leaders, or elders within your family - only to be met with judgement or an overreaction? Or you sought guidance from the haram police, who just threw loads of shame at you (because that’s like, all they know how to do)? maybe a judgey auntie, who ignored everything you just said, and instead focused on how ‘healthy’ you look, and how you should put that samosa down?

Or, in desperation, maybe you even tried asking a white friend- who has all the best intentions in the world, but has no idea the damage one chappal in the wrong hand can do. So their advice left much to be desired.

OH MY GOD DUDE! ME TOO!!!!!!!!!

My name is Mah-Noor Anwar, I’m the founder of Chutney Chick - and a girl who has felt frustration around her identity since literally always.

Chutney Chick is my epic platform that aims to create pride and belonging for south asians and muslims who have grown up in the west :D because loads of us struggle with our identities! as a result of our experiences inside our homes versus outside can feel crazy different and sometimes as if they are at odds with one another.

I want us to feel free of shame and able to embrace our epic roots. I will be sharing content around South Asian art and design, culture, history, and discussions of decolonisation.

Chutney Chick is a platform that is open to everyone - all you have to bring is good vibes!

Find us at chutney-chick.com as well as Instagram (@chutneychickshop) and YouTube (@chutney-chick)! :D
